As I was walking through the hallways this week and admiring all the different artwork in the hallways, I stopped to take a closer look at some pencil sketch portraits done by grade 8, and was struck again by the skill shown by many of our students, but also how our artwork brings praise to God.

In the middle of the portraits was this sign.

Through art, our students learn techniques, ideas, self-expression and art appreciation, but they also learn how this form of expression and communication can be used to praise God, using the gifts of creativity He has given us. This creativity can make a positive contribution to culture and help us to fulfill our calling to redeem culture. As Andy Crouch puts it:
“It is not enough to condemn culture. Nor is it sufficient merely to critique culture or to copy culture. Most of the time, we just consume culture. But the only way to change culture is to create culture.”
Culture Making: Recovering Our Creative Calling
Our vision at LHCS is to engage God’s world and one of the ways we can do that is through arts and culture. Our students are equipped to not only understand and appreciate the arts but develop their gifts to serve God in this way too!

Stop by, walk the halls and visit our “art gallery”.
